According to a new study, Mumbai leads the pack of top eight internet using metros in India.
One lakh respondents in the age group of eight to 60 years participated in the Internet in India (I-Cube) study, jointly undertaken by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and market research company IMRB International, conducted across 26 Indian cities.
The classification was largely based on the education and occupation of the chief wage earner, rather than caste or religion. In the top eight metros, the core profile covered belonged to the service and business classes. There were respondents from the levels of supervisor, traders and high-end shopkeepers as well.
There was also a small section (about 10 per cent) of unskilled labourers who were interviewed for the study, and it was more on an experimental basis to gauge the internet usage among this (particular) group.
The study covered men and women equally. But, its a well-known fact that the profile of internet user is more skewed towards male and the younger population.
