Chemplast in final, courtesy spin of coin

Filed under:

Luck smiled on Chemplast as it emerged the winner against Mumbai by spin of the coin in the three-day semifinal of the all-India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament at the Gymkhana grounds here on Sunday.

Mumbai had scored 206 in its first innings and after two days of play marred by rain interruptions, Chemplast was 158 for five in 60 overs at close on the third day. As the innings was not completed, the umpires decided to extend the play on the reserve day on Sunday.

However, heavy overnight rains left the ground waterlogged and after the final inspection at 3:30 p.m., the umpires decided to abandon days play and opted for the spin of coin in which Chemplast was lucky.

The three-day final between Chemplast and Hyderabad will commence at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal) from Monday. — Principal Correspondent.
