The conviction of Grant and Waters is being seen as a turnaround for paedophile cases in Mumbai.
For the first time a court has indicated that Mumbai’s children are increasingly falling prey to sex rackets run by foreigners.
Judge PS Paranjape said let paedophiles around the world know that India should not be their destination in future.
A hard-hitting pointer that Mumbai has become an easy target for sex tourists.
It is a humiliation for police as the prosecution established in court that police did not register the initial FIR in 2001.
“It’s a chance for us to rectify. If there are any procedural lapses, we shall correct it,” said Sanjay Apranti of the Enforcement Directorate.
Pick up point
Gateway of India - Mumbai’s famous tourist spot is also a pick up point for paedophiles. It is where pimps roam around, induce minors and push them in the booming international sex tourism industry.
“They are about 10 to 15 years old. And they make anywhere between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 an hour,” said an unidentified man.
Wilhelm and Lili a respectable-looking aged Swiss couple were actually pedophiles.
The racket they were running with the help of family in Sweden was busted in 2001. They were convicted.

2 months on, police nowhere near cracking Mumbai blasts
Almost two months after serial bombings on rush-hour suburban trains left nearly 190 people dead in Mumbai, the elite Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) is nowhere near cracking the larger conspiracy in the case. Although 10 people have been arrested, some of them Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) suspects, they are yet to provide any clues to the police to piece together the meticulous planning that went into the horrific act. In fact as the pressure for a breakthrough mounts, many Muslims in the city are alleging that the police are targeting them unnecessarily. Till date, over 100 people have been detained for questioning from predominantly Muslim areas
