Builder R C Chaturvedi of the Shreepati Group, booked in a false case by the police in the past, has tied up with D B Realty in a joint venture to redevelop the 30-acre Abhyudaya Nagar at Kalachowkie. The property belongs to Mhada and comprises 48 buildings and 4,700 tenants.
The Abhyudaya Nagar project has a controversial past. Chaturvedi was falsely implicated and arrested by some policemen at the behest of rival builder Rashmikant Shah who was also in the race to redevelop this property. Chaturvedi was in jail for 41 days before he got bail. Subsequently, several officers, including senior IPS officer Bipin Bihari, was suspended for their role in the frame-up.
“About a fortnight ago, Shahid Balwa of D B Realty approached me and suggested we do the project together,'’ Chaturvedi said. But he admitted that the tenants of Abhyudaya Nagar had still not given their written consent for the redevelopment project. The law says 70% of the tenants have to give their consent for such a project. They have orally agreed to it. We are in the process of meeting them said Chaturvedi. Interestingly, D B Realty has already put up its board inside the residential complex.

However, there are still a number of blanks to be filled: - The Budget should make high-priority provisions for the laying down of necessary infrastructure so that new areas can be opened up. The concept would be to create and link-up satellite settlements to main cities that will help tackle the demand-supply mismatch. The Budget should provide clarity on the STPI guidelines whether they will remain or not,
