Twenty-nine-year-old housewife Sheetal Gore has been twice bitten and now prefers to be shy. Gore, also a cosmetic science student, has been robbed twice off her property in the last two years. Both times, fake power of attorneys - which were never assigned by Gore - used to sell off properties that legally belonged to her. Gore has now sought succour from the police and court to get back both her properties that are situated in Panvel.
A resident of Old Panvel, Gore, has lodged two separate complaints with Navi Mumbai’s commissioner of police and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) asking them to investigate both the fake property deals.
In her letter written to the ACP, earlier this month, Gore has said that she had purchased a flat (72.30 square metre) and a parking slot in April 2005 in the under-construction Sai Saaj building at New Panvel. She added that instalments totalling to Rs10.20 lakh were paid by her, for the seventh-floor apartment, between April 2005 and April 2006.

South or suburbs, one rule for assessing property tax
Residents of South Mumbai will now have higher property tax assessment while those in the suburbs will see a reduction in taxes following the passing of the Bill to allow the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to collect taxes based on the capital value of properties. Mumbai will finally switch from the rateable value-based collection of property tax, under which tax is assessed on the rent a property can earn. The reforms are expected to finally rationalise property tax collections — South Mumbai, where rents are frozen by the Rent Control Act, has until now paid comparatively lower property tax than suburban
