Chief minister Ashok Chavan on Friday allotted two Mhada flats in Malwani to Slumdog Millionaire child stars Mohammed Azharuddin and Rubina Qureshi. Given that the cost of the apartments was borne by the Mumbai Congress, Mhada has - for the first time in its history - appointed a political party as custodian of the property until the minors turn 18.
Interestingly, the children are shortly due to receive a similar dole from the Jai Ho Trust set up by the film-makers.
On Friday evening, Mhada delivered the allotment letters to the childrens slum in Garib Nagar, Bandra, after the Congress issued two cheques of Rs 4,14,200 each towards the cost of the flats.
